A rural hospital in East New Britain now has reliable lighting after receiving a donation of solar spotlights.
The We Are One Foundation, the charitable arm of Islands Petroleum, has given six 200-watt solar spotlights to Warangoi Rural Hospital.
The hospital has struggled with constant power outages and an aging backup generator.
Foundation Coordinator Nicole Kamara says the lights will improve safety for both staff and patients.
“We are pleased to present these six, 200-watt solar spotlights to Warangoi Rural Hospital. The hospital is in great need to have reliable and constant power supply.”
The hospital serves nearly 18,000 people from Warangoi, Gazelle, and Rabaul districts.
Medical Officer Dr Micah Misivet thanked the foundation, saying the hospital is focused on finding solutions to the challenges it faces.
“We have faced a lot of challenges but we have learnt to forego talking about the problems, rather we are looking at solutions.”
The hospital management says it hopes the four aid posts under its care will receive similar support in the future.
