HEALTH Secretary Dr Osborne Liko (pictured) says immunization is one of the important ways to help people from getting ill and stay healthy.

He made this remark as the country prepares to observe the world immunization day from 24th to 30th April.

“Vaccines also contributes to safeguarding our communities, especially the most vulnerable ones living amongst the community,” Dr Liko said.

He said the health sector remains committed to ensuring there are more effort brought forward to contributing in saving lives of people.

Dr Liko believes much awareness of immunization can enhance people’s reach towards immunization centers and allow for progress and prosperity in the community and the entire country.

He alluded to the theme for this year, “Humanly Possible: saving lives through immunization”, affirming the effective role of immunization in Papua New Guinea.

“As we mark the World Immunization Week, we would want everyone to be part of this program and help to relay the message and necessary information to the neighboring communities.

“We have implemented innovative strategies of maintaining immunization as well as adhering to public health measures.

“I commend the work of health care workers, immunization teams, partners both international and local and volunteers who are committed and ensure the success of immunization programs.”

Dr Liko is urging the general public to value their health so they stay healthy and grow resilient through immunization.
