THE National Capital District Women’s Council (NCDWC) is set for a long-awaited revival after 15 years of inactivity, backed by a K1.5 million commitment from NCD Governor Powes Parkop and the district’s two Members of Parliament, North-East MP John Kaupa and North-West MP Lohia Boi Samuel, to restore the Council and strengthen its role in empowering women across the nation’s capital.
The funding commitment was announced during the Council’s inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Sir John Guise Stadium on Tuesday, marking the Council’s official return after more than a decade of inactivity.
National Council of Women President Ms. Sabeth Yengis welcomed the Council’s revival, describing it as an important step forward for women in the capital.
She reminded delegates that the Council is recognised under the National Council of Women Act and encouraged members to work together with integrity, accountability and a shared commitment to serving their communities.
Adding to the support, NCDC Director for Social Development, Mr. Benson Hahambu, announced that his Directorate will provide a bus to the Women’s Council to help members travel across the district and carry out their duties more effectively.
He said reliable transport would enable the Council to reach more communities, coordinate its activities and better serve women throughout the district.
The K1.5 million funding, together with the vehicle support, is expected to give the newly revived Council a strong foundation as it begins implementing programmes and rebuilding its presence to better serve women and communities across the National Capital District.
