Marape to open Western Pacific University in SHP

Prime Minister James Marape will be in Ialibu, Southern Highlands province on March 01, 2021 to officially open the Western Pacific University.

The Prime Minister is expected to be accompanied by both government ministers and members from the opposition for the grand opening of the university.

Member for Ialibu-Pangia and founder of the university, Peter O’Neill is expected to give welcome address of the ceremony.

According to the University Council, the first part of the event will see opening remarks, addresses and dedication ceremony from 9:30 am to 11:10am.

Part two of the event will be dedication service and blessing of the university students, staff and campus by Cardinal Sir John Ribat.

Final part of the ceremony will be in the evening of the same day where PM James Marape will unveil the official opening of the University and the 2021 Academic Year.

Presentations of gifts by Chairman of the University Council, Sir Peter Barter, will be the next program of the event with other activities before the event ends at 3:30pm.

Meanwhile, the university has started its first enrolment for this year with more than 300 students to begin their studies in March, 2021.

It is understood these first cohort of students will be enrolled in the Foundation Year Program.

This program is said to be a compulsory course of study for students seeking entry to a Bachelor’s program at Western Pacific University.
