Leaders across Morobe’s law and justice sector are working together to strengthen how justice services are delivered for communities across the province.

In Lae, almost 100 participants from the provincial and national agencies, representatives from 36 districts and local level administrations came together for a reflections workshop.

They discussed pressing law and order issues, identified shared challenges and collaborative response mechanisms, and agreed on clear priorities for the year ahead.

Supported through the Australia–PNG Law and Justice Partnership, the session provided a forum for agencies to reflect on frontline experience and identify practical actions to improve coordination and accountability across the sector.

Discussions focused on improving access to courts in rural areas, strengthening responses to family and sexual violence, and improving referral pathways between police, health and community services.

Deputy Provincial Administrator Infrastructure, Kisu Lucas in his opening remarks said: “We acknowledge the support of the Australian Government for making this critical meeting possible.

“This is an opportunity to engage with all District and LLG Administration staff in understanding law and order issues faced and we can all work together to address these issues.”

Deputy Provincial Administrator for Social Services, Robin Bazzynu, said the reflections session marked an important step in strengthening law and justice service delivery across Morobe.

“This is about speaking honestly about what is working and where we need to do better,” Mr Bazzynu said.

“By working and planning together across agencies, we can strengthen coordination and ensure our plans respond to the real needs of women, children and communities across Morobe, especially those in hard-to reach areas.”

Outcomes from the reflection’s sessions will feed directly into Morobe`s priority development and activity planning for the remainder of 2026 and the first half of 2027, helping ensure provincial work plans are evidence based, coordinated, and focused on delivering more effective justice services for communities.

The Australia-PNG Law and Justice Partnership is a PNG law and justice sector-led initiative, with programs prioritised through the National Coordinating Mechanism and delivered in partnership with sector agencies.

Australia is proud to support PNG to deliver locally led efforts that strengthen institutions and improve access to justice for communities.
