NEW Porgera Limited has confirmed its support for the accounting profession in Papua New Guinea through a K100,000 Platinum Sponsorship of the CPA PNG 2026 Conference Series.

The sponsorship will support the Annual CPAPNG–CPAA Joint Conference to be held in Port Moresby in November 2026, together with three lead-up regional conferences scheduled for Kokopo, Mt Hagen and Lae.

Certified Practising Accountants Papua New Guinea President James P. Gore said the partnership reflected a shared commitment to professional excellence, national capacity building and stronger financial leadership across Papua New Guinea.

“This sponsorship is more than a contribution to a conference program. It is an investment in professional capability, ethical leadership and the financial governance ecosystem that underpins sustainable development,” Mr Gore said.

For more than 50 years, CPAPNG has served as the authoritative voice of the accounting profession in Papua New Guinea. As a member of the International Federation of Accountants, CPAPNG continues to promote high professional, ethical and technical standards across the country.

The 2026 Conference Series is expected to bring together leaders from business, government and the accounting profession to discuss issues shaping Papua New Guinea’s economic future, including artificial intelligence, SME empowerment, sustainability and ESG reporting, financial compliance and global integration.

Mr Gore said New Porgera Limited’s support was particularly significant because it aligned with the company’s broader focus on national participation, workforce and skills development, community development, supplier growth, sustainable and inclusive growth, and long-term partnerships that broaden the benefits of the Porgera Project across Papua New Guinea.

He said the sponsorship would help strengthen the professional foundations required for better decision-making, stronger institutions and improved accountability across both the private and public sectors.

CPAPNG said any surplus generated from the Conference Series would be directed towards strategic initiatives, including its objective of bringing public sector accountants under the CPAPNG umbrella and supporting government efforts to strengthen public sector financial management.

These initiatives include professionalising the public sector accounting workforce, building capacity among public sector accountants, supporting reform initiatives and contributing to improved standards of governance, transparency and financial stewardship across all levels of government.

CPAPNG commended New Porgera Limited for its leadership and partnership through the Platinum Sponsorship.

“At a time when Papua New Guinea needs strong institutions, capable professionals and responsible corporate citizens working together, this contribution stands as a practical demonstration of corporate commitment to national development,” Mr Gore said.

Mr Gore extended CPAPNG’s appreciation to the Board, management and staff of New Porgera Limited and said CPAPNG looked forward to working with the company to deliver a successful 2026 Conference Series and advance the shared goals of professional excellence, inclusive growth and stronger financial accountability for Papua New Guinea.
