THE Department of Education successfully conducted the 2026 Upper Secondary Grade 12 Written Expression Examination today, Monday, 3rd August 2026.
A total of 41,149 students from 249 secondary schools and seven National Schools of Excellence (NSoEs) across the country sat for the national examination today.
In preparation for the examination, the Measurement Services Division (MSD) successfully dispatched all examination papers and related materials to all provinces and schools well in advance.
To allow students ample time to prepare, the Written Expression Examination resource booklets were officially distributed to students on Monday, 27th July 2026. The one-week reading period gave students the opportunity to thoroughly study the provided materials, read the prompts, and plan their essays before today’s examination.
The Secretary for Education, Dr. Uke Kombra, commended the Measurement Services Division, provincial education authorities, and school principals for ensuring the smooth and timely distribution of the examination materials.
“This examination is a critical milestone for our Grade 12 students as they prepare for their future academic journeys,” Dr. Kombra said.
“I commend all students for their commitment and preparation over the past week, and I wish them every success as they continue their educational journey.”
Dr. Kombra also congratulated the 41,149 Grade 12 candidates across Papua New Guinea for completing the Written Expression Examination and thanked teachers, parents, and education stakeholders for their continued support in ensuring the successful conduct of the examination.
