Para-badminton team needs fund to represent PNG in Aust

PNG para-badminton team is currently in preparation to represent PNG in Australia at the end of September.
However, the team needs funding to make this possible says coach Ian Bridge.
Mr Bridge said para-badminton is one of the sporting codes that gives people living with disability an opportunity to take part in sports and he is looking at getting team of about four athletes to represent PNG in Australia.
“Three or four players hopefully will be going to Australia at the end of September. In Australia we are hosting the Oceania Championship which will be followed by international that’s we get to participate with other countries,” Coach Bridge said.
The team have been undergoing their training at both Sir John Guise indoor and outdoor area and Rita Flynn depending on where the venue management allow them to use.
Coach bridge also said Para-badminton is no popular in PNG and they are hoping to get more awareness done to get the people familiarise with the game.
“What we are trying to do is to create a nice environment to give the players the opportunity and try and create pathway for those aspiring to compete in the top level go up from there,” coach Bridge said.
“It is good to get the sport promoted but it needs to get funding to help it from there. We are making a good start. If you are out there and wants to be part of this, get involve!”
PNG para-badminton have been representing PNG in certain sporting events hosted overseas and they are now looking to represent the country again in the Australia and hopefully in the next Olympic games in French.
The team however, currently face hardship in logistics to move athletes who are people living with disability that needs special attention to see the best from them.
