PNG group supports West Papua’s fight for freedom

THE PNG union for Free West Papua (PNGUFWP), an organisation committed in supporting the fight for freedom of West Papua has called to all Melanesian brothers to stand in solidarity with the people of West Papua.

PNGUFWP chairman, Kenn Mondiai speaking yesterday in a media conference said the PNG Union does not recognise the imaginary boarder from Sandaun to Wutung down to Daru.

“Therefore as Melanesians, we stand behind and in solidarity for the people of West Papua to seek their freedom and to fight for what is right, for their resources, their land their identity and dignity,” said Mr Mondiai.

He further explained that the PNG Union of Free West Papua is an umbrella organisation of many NGO’s and civil society movement in Papua New Guinea that has been in the country for five years. Some other partners of the group include; the PNG Council of Churches,  the Centre for Environmental Law and Community Rights, PNG Anti-corruption Movement for Change, People’s Power Movement and other existing non- government organisation in PNG who are also advocating on environment and human rights issues.

“It is a coalition of civil society organisation that are working together to promote and educate our people in PNG on the issue that our Melanesian brothers and sisters across the border are facing,” Mondiai said.
