Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) CEO Roy Daggy has urged fuel importers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers to comply with the price reset effective as of 16 April 2026.

“Following the K100 million Fuel Relief Assistance, the fuel price will translate into business operations including PMVs,” Mr Daggy said.

He said with the challenge in fuel price increase all around the country people have been taking advantage of this by charging their own fares.
However with the relief package, 100% fuel price subsidy, the fuel price will translate into business operations including PMVs.

“As of the 16th, I strongly recommend that the PMV fares should be applied as per ICCC’s determination and should not be charged above the maximum price set,” Mr Daggy said.
“We also caution businesses and traders they must ensure that the relief package also pass through their production as well because fuel is one of the main component into the production and it will definitely translate into the price of goods and services in shops.”

ICCC, Customs, IRC, BPNG and Treasury Department will conduct ongoing compliance and monitoring to ensure that the Relief Assistance tackles down to the final customers.

“In terms of monitoring and compliance, our relevant state agencies will form a taskforce to make sure we follow this through the last line ensuring that the prices are being translated to the final customers ,” Mr Daggy said.

He said they will have to monitor non-compliance and will strictly make sure that everyone benefits from this relief package.

“The enforcements and the monitoring of noncompliance will be a major activity that will go on for the next 6 months,” he said.
“With the relevant state agencies we will continue to monitor and make sure this is effectively implemented and executed under the leadership of the minister for Rural and Economic Development and Chairman of the High Level Cabinet Task Force on addressing the fuel shortages in PNG, Joseph Lelang.

“The ICC will then conduct inspectitations and take appropriate enforcement action against any individual or business found to be none compliant which is in breach of the price Regulation Act Chapter 320,”
