Four PNG Lewas join Australian team

Four players from the PNG Lewas squad have been selected to represent and play alongside the South Australia Indigenous Cricket Team (Women’s) at the 2026 National Indigenous Cricket Championships (NICC) in Mackay, Australia.

The selected players are Brenda Tau, Henao Thomas, Dika Lohia, and Sibona Jimmy, who travelled to Australia on Sunday 12 April 2026 to take part in the championship. The NICC is a week-long tournament running from Tuesday 14 to Sunday 19 April 2026.PNG Lewas Strength & Conditioning Coach Anthea Murray also travelled with the group to Mackay, where she is undertaking a valuable learning and professional development opportunity within the high-performance environment of the championships. This experience supports ongoing capacity building within Cricket Papua New Guinea.

PNG Lewas’ Brenda Tau said the opportunity is an exciting experience for the four players involved.

“We are excited to be part of this year’s Indigenous Cricket Championship. We look forward to playing alongside the South Australia Indigenous Cricket Team and hope not only to learn but to give our best throughout the championship,” Tau said.

“I want to thank the South Australian Indigenous Cricket Team for welcoming us. And a big thank you to Cricket Australia, PacificAus Sports, and Cricket Papua New Guinea for this opportunity and their continued support.”

Cricket Papua New Guinea acknowledged and thanked Cricket Australia and PacificAus Sports for their ongoing commitment to supporting development pathways for PNG players, coaches, and officials at international level.

The initiative continues to strengthen Indigenous cricket connections and high-performance opportunities across Australia and the Pacific region.
