PNGRFL working on policies to reach highest level

By GABRIEL KATUHO

THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) is working on policies to address some of the discrepancies associated with their judiciary system with the help from experts to bring the game to the professional level.

PNGRFL General Manager Mr Leith Isaac made this known at the Franchise managers’ football conference in Port Moresby on Wednesday 1st February 2024.

“Last year there were lot of discrepancies regarding the way we ran our judiciary.

“We didn’t have a good judiciary in place, the laws and how we interpret the rules were not in existence so we got a lot of expertise to come in.

“We want improve all the aspects of the game so we brought some experts to improve the game technically as well as operationally,” he said.

Former NRL referee Tony Archer has been brought in to strengthen several areas PNGRFL on how look at rules that they interpreted from NRL to include into the competition.

Mr Leith Isaac said in the previous years they didn’t enforce a lot of these rules.

“It is incumbent for us to now do that. This sessions we want to make sure that the players understand the code of conduct both on and off the field.

“We had some issue with some players of how they lounge, play, as well as their accommodation and airline.

“Those are some of the problems off the field so we also got policies around when they are travelling.

“They still carry the national NRL brand when they are traveling.

“We’ve got off field policies, we’ve got on field policies, we’ve got policies for our game day staff, and we’ve got policies for club officials as well,” Mr. Issac said.

He said the club officials will also be disciplined if they are seen to be breaking the policies.
