POLICE in the National Capital District are currently investigating the death of a 20-year-old boy who was seriously assaulted on June 16 at Rainbow Cash and Carry and later died while seeking treatment at the Port Moresby General Hospital.

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Warrick Simatab confirmed that a formal complaint had been registered and the Criminal Investigation Division is currently investigating the death of the late Titus Aisa from Mekeo in the Gulf Province.

He said there had been many social media posts requesting the police to investigate the matter, which they had already started investigating when the initial incident happened.

Met Supt Simatab confirmed that the CID officers had obtained the necessary information from witnesses at the scene where the late Aisa and his friend were seriously assaulted, before being taken to the police station under allegations of stealing Maggi stock cubes.

He said according to the initial report provided by the police, it was alleged that the late Aisa and his friend Abel Ate were employees of FIX Security who were accused of shoplifting.

He said the two were caught by their colleagues who were working at the shop who seriously assaulted them and then brought them to the police station.

”I have also instructed police officers to investigate those officers who detained the two,” Met Supt Simatab said.

“This will lead to identifying the security officers who brought them to the police station.”

“The matter is now under investigation. The arrest of the suspects involved will soon take place as we have obtained the necessary information.”

He further added that he appreciates what the public has done in providing updates on social media but urged that they must also respect the deceased as the matter is now under investigation.

The management of FIX Security is also working closely with the police to make sure those involved are dealt with accordingly.
