Police Minister Sir John Pundari has paid tribute to Southern Highlands Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Superintendent Mas Tuman who passed away at the Mendi General Hospital yesterday.
He said policing was a noble but inherently risky profession.
“It is a calling that requires a unique brand of courage,” Sir John said in his condolence message.
He said Supt Tuman was a career police officer who embodied the essence of the oath of office – “to serve the people of PNG without fear or favor, malice or ill will”.
“He stood as a pillar of stability in one of our most challenging provinces, dedicating his life to the safety of our communities and the integrity of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary,” Minister Pundari said.
“His service to the nation was defined by a steadfast commitment to duty, even in the face of significant adversity.
“The loss of such a seasoned commander is a profound blow to the RPNGC and the people of the Southern Highlands whom he served so diligently.
“We thank the late Superintendent Mas Tuman for his distinguished service to our country.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Police and the National Government, Sir John extends his deepest and most heartfelt condolences to:
Supt Tuman’s grieving wife and children, who shared him with the nation and supported him throughout his long career,
His tribesmen and family for the loss of a great leader and mentor.
His colleagues, the rank and file of the RPNGC, who have lost a brother-in-arms and a dedicated commander.
“His legacy of discipline and commitment will not be forgotten.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
