The Morobe Kandes Rugby football Club Head Coach Stanley Tepend has congratulated Agmark Rabaul Gurias for the voctory on Sunday.

Former Kumuls and SP PNG Hunters Coach Stanley Tepend led the Morobe Kandes rugby football club in their inaugural season to be the most performing team in the 2026 Digicel ExxonMobil Cup competition 2026 to finishing off at preliminary finals.

Kandes took to a tough contest against the Gurias on Sunday where they fall short with only two points to the spirited New Guinea Island rivals.

The 18 to 20 score in favour of Gurias showed the toughness of the match between both teams executing and displaying all they have learnt.

Gurias turned out to be the better team defeating Kandes 20 points to 18 nad bring Kande’s quest to an end.

Stanley Tepend during the post-match interview expressed his gratitude to the team for the wonderful season and finishing off at the preliminary finals.

“It was unfortunate the way we finish there right up until six minutes. This shows the class of the Agmark Gurias and the experience that has carried them through,” Tepend said.

He said It was disappointing with mixed emotions but the team is proud to have a wonderful season and finishing off in the preliminary finals.

“We would like to go for another week but its not meant to be so the young boys that we have had took something out of this season and hopefully we work hard in another season,” he added.
