IT was a great showdown at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club on last Friday April 22, 2022 as 47 teams took part in the challenge with the effort to raise funds for Team PNG.

It was smiles all around at the end of the day but especially for Kumul Petroleum team one who celebrated with the 2022 PM’s Golf challenge. Luke Liria, Darren Ninkama, Marlcom Negints and Emmanuel Pamunda had a better conclusion to their day with the cup in hand.

Liria said it was exciting to be the champions but credit to the organisers.

“Thanks to the organisers, this game goes to help team PNG and what they are doing for the country. Therefore, when we put our teams together we are glad to be working with the organisers to support team PNG,” Liria said.

The 2022 PM’s golf challenge was officially teed off by Health Minister Jelta Wong representing Prime Minister James Marape in Port Moresby allowing the 47 teams to take on the challenge for the whole day. Braving the Port Moresby heat, the teams took to the golf course with excitement to support Team PNG to the world sporting arena.

When crowning the winners PNG Olympics Committee President Sir John Dawanincura said he was pleased with the support from all 47 teams.

“I’d like to acknowledge the honourable Prime Minister James Marape (for the challenge) and I also want to thank everyone,” Sir John said.

He said all this effort was to support Team PNG to represent the country and take part in Mini Pacific Games in Saipan, Northern Marianas from June 17, 2022 to June 25, 2022 and later the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in England.

The golf challenge was successfully hosted last weekend in Lae and now in Port Moresby.

Sir John further said it is tough times with the corona virus affecting businesses and activities in the country and the world but the support shown is even bigger.

He said PM’s golf challenge was one of the annual charity events and he was glad to be part of it as president of PNGOC, a non-governmental organisation behind Team PNG.
