THE recent University Vice Chancellor’s cup rugby league grand final that was called off prematurely due to nightfall before the kick-off of the second half is confirmed for a rematch.

The grand final was declared no-match and dual winner in accordance with the Tournament Manuel Section 9d titled ‘Finals’. The grand final match was categorized in standard competition rules section 14b under “Abandon Matches.” These are matches that commence and later canceled due to bad lighting

The rematch of University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) Pythons against University of Technology (UOT) Spartans will be played as the curtain raiser for the 2021 Digicel Cup season.

This was confirmed by UOT Student Representative Senate president Eliza Kapma.  The rematch is a deserving finish for the both side including the spectators and the game of rugby as a whole in the country.

“I have talked to the UPNG competition organizers and I’m waiting for the documents to be sent to me. I was there with my boys for the VC cup competition and I can say that both teams deserve a rematch. I thank PNGRFL for making this possible,” said Kapma.

Kapma said they received confirmation for the VC cup grand final rematch from PNG RFL and PNG national coach Richard Marum.

UOT Spartans have welcomed the news and are looking forward to commence their training for the rematch.

However, several attempts to get comments from the UPNG student representative council president and the host of 2021 VC Cup were unsuccessful.
