Minister warns housing officers

By MORTIMER YANGHARR

TEWAE-Siassi Open MP and Housing Minister Hon Dr Kobby Bomareo assured the nation that evictions won’t be carried out and warned officers who facilitated eviction exercises of instant dismissal from the public service.

Minister Bomareo since taking office last year, has initiated reforms in the National Housing Commission (NHC), taking stock of all its assets and the workforce to ensure general housing services to the people are effectively delivered.

He said this during last week’s parliament session when responding to questions raised by Abau MP Sir Puka Temu on the NHC evicting long time tenants without following proper processes and procedures.

Minister Bomareo assured Parliament and the general public that he has temporarily halted evictions in all NHC properties throughout the county as his ministry is undergoing drastic restructure in its operations and administration.

He warned his officers to work according to the rule of law as those who involve in corrupt and dubious deals will be instantly terminated and dismissed from the public service.

“I will ensure no tenant is illegally evicted from their homes until formal processes are followed and thoroughly completed,” Bomareo said.

He revealed in Parliament that he had officially authorized the dismissal of five (5) regional managers within the NHC and warned officers to work honestly to serve the people as corruption has been rampant and he would not allow corrupt people to hold the people at ransom.

Bomareo ordered officers not to carry out eviction in the Jiwaka province after he was notified.

The medical doctor turned politician acknowledged the Marape-Rosso government in prioritising the reformation agendas in the NHC and the Housing Ministry in general.
