The Supreme Court Judge, Justice David Cannings today dismissed Peter Wararu’s leave application to appeal his Election Petition (EP) loss against the Yangoru-Saussia MP, Hon. Richard Maru at the District Court. Justice Cannings dismissed all eight grounds that Wararu’s lawyers submitted, ruling that they had no merit in law.
“I want to thank and praise God for giving us our third victory in a row. I give all praise and honor to him. I also want to thank my lawyer too,” said Minister Maru.Hon. Maru said this was the third time that Wararu had lost his EP against him.
“Wararu is a serial petitioner with unmeritorious and baseless accusations and allegations. He filed three unsuccessful petitions so far in the three elections that I won- 2012, 2017 and 2022. This was Wararu’s final show. The serial petitioner has now become a serial loser,” said Hon. Maru.
“It is very interesting that of all the candidates that contest the Yangoru-Saussia seat, Wararu is the only one that keeps taking me to court,” said Hon. Maru.
Hon. Maru said Wararu’s attitude that the Yangoru-Saussia MP seat was his birth right was a laughingstock.“Even when Wararu is defeated by over 6, 000 votes in the elections, he has no respect for the people’s choice of who they want their leader to be. He thinks that Yagnoru-Saussia MP seat is his birth right, even when he is defeated with such a big margin in consecutive elections,” said Minister Maru.
Hon. Maru said it was time that Wararu paid full price for his selfish and reckless behaviour, and for wasting everyone’s time.
“Wararu has been wasting the Court’s time, Yangoru-Saussia people’s time, and my time to carry on my responsibilities as the Yangoru-Saussia MP and a State Minister. He has been hindering the development of Yangoru-Saussia District. Wararu will pay for the price for wasting our time by paying for all legal cost of this petition and that of the previous two elections,” said Hon. Maru.
Relieved Hon. Maru said: “It’s all over now and I can finally focus on my responsibilities.”
