ANGORAM District Sports Coordinator Nolen Gumaim aims to use sports as a tool to influence social development.
Gumaim, who got appointed to the post recently, said sports will be used to influence social change in the district.
He was tasked to assemble a team for the upcoming Momase Regional Youth Games to be hosted by Madang District.
Gumaim, with the blessing of his General Team Manager Edmund Tupui and funding support from local Member Salio Waipo, has been working tirelessly with the youths to coordinate prepare for the upcoming games.
Their efforts so far have seen them formally register as the second district in the entire Momase region after Ambunti.
“I hope is to change the mindset of my youths for rehabilitation activities in order to minimise illicit activities in the 158 wards,” he said.
“I would like to connect sports with agriculture, religion, education, or any other Government or NGO intervention programmes that will improve their quality of life.
“As stated in Vision 2050, I would like to set a good foundation for the youths of today and for the future.”
With the Angoram new-look concept, I am privileged to acknowledge the Minister for Forestry Hon. Salio Waipo for his support, together with the Angoram District Administrator Martin Anska and the LLG Managers for their tireless support to help rehabilitate youths through sports.
“I have seen changes happening and I want to also acknowledge my new-look sports team for standing at my back to see this concept rolled out smoothly, together with the Angoram Town Cleanup.”
Gumaim also extended his acknowledgments to the support of Alpha Cash Lending and Alpha More Stationary.
