WATER PNG Limited continues its legacy sponsorship to Koiari Rugby League competition and club with K100, 000 funding support.
This is to strengthen its ties with the locals whose land and resources are used to supply water to Port Moresby.
As part of continued commitment done under its old label Eda Ranu, Water PNG presented K50, 000 each to Koiari Rugby League (KRL) competition and Dobo Warriors rugby league club (DWRLC) on Tuesday August 1, 2023.
Water PNG Board Chairman, Nelson Tangi said this is one of the contribution Water PNG is doing to strengthen the tie between land owners as a government agencies who deals with land owners.
“We are also part of the government agency and with the relations we established, we are working well with them to continue our sponsorship to KRL and DWRLC,” he said.
“That relationship was established when I was with Eda Ranu and now I have the opportunity to continue our relationship.
“Our aim is to create healthy, law abiding and good work force amongst our citizens and to encourage importance of promoting sports and of course rugby league is one of them,” Tangi said.
“Water PNG also contribute to other sporting bodies and other organisations not much but as much as we are able to contribute.”
KRL newly elected President Anthony Abavu is very thankful for the assistance and pledge to support the work of Water PNG to supply clean water to Port Moresby.
He said the funding into KRL will be used to upgrade the playing field and also help with the running of the competition this year.
“We will break the funds to field upgrade to the standard and also the purchasing of trophies for the tournament,” Abavu said.
He said the money put into grading the field will help sporting activities in the area including the inclusion of women’s rugby league competition that is set to start next year.
KRL competition has a total of six team competing in the men’s division and starting next year they will kick off women’s competition which following directives from PNG National Rugby League competition.
KRL is also working on putting up a team to compete in the PNGNRLC are doing all they can to tick the boxes.
