THE Electoral Commission of Papua New Guinea launched its Corporate Plan 2023-2027 in Port Moresby yesterday.
The launching follows after a four-day workshop attended by 22 election managers and 22 assistance election managers from around PNG.
The event was officiated by Electoral Commissioner Simon Sinai, Chief Secretary Ivan Pomaleu and other stakeholders, including representatives from United Nations and Australia High Commission.
Sinai said there are some challenges of concern which need immediate attention and are captured in the corporate plan.
He said over the years some challenges like updating of the Common Roll was a collective effort.
Sinai said some of those issues arose as a result of not enough funding from the government.
He congratulated staff for their commitment in making sure elections were completed on time and said the plan would guide how the organization operates in the next five years.
Pomaleu congratulated the Electoral Commission for the launching of the plan and said it was one of the government’s prime objectives.
He said the government was looking at doing legislative reforms for all electoral commissions in the country and the launching of the plan was a step forward.
