The win by Lagaip Open MP Hon.Aimos Akem in the recent 2023 Lagaip Open Supplementary Election will be challenged in the Court of Dispute Returns.
The runner up and United Resource Party (URP) candidate Tomait Kapili (pictured)has filed an election petition at the Waigani National Court to challenge the victory of the incumbent MP.
A public notice of the election petition was published in the dailies indicating the incumbent as the First Respondent and the Electoral Commission of Papua New Guinea as the Second Respondent.
The incumbent who is a Pangu Pati parliamentary member has only been in office for the past month but has vigorously pushed for changes to be implemented throughout the new district in Enga Province.
The election petition was formally filed and registered at the Waigani National Court Registry last week Friday.
