Schnaubelt delivers projects for Tabar islanders

THE people of Tabar island constituency in the Sentral Niu Ireland Local Level Government of the Namatanai district recently benefitted from a housing scheme and solar lighting project from the Namatanai District Development Authority.

Namatanai MP and Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation Walter Schnaubelt launched both projects worth more than K1 million for five wards on Tabar Island under the new Ward Development Support (WDS) program.

In his first electoral duty visit for this year, the MP delivered 4,000 sheets red color bond roofing iron for 50 recipients at 16 sheets each and 200 solar lights per ward for the five wards at the Mapua Mission Area (Ward 4).

The 16 sheets color bond roofing iron was accompanied with a K300 hardware voucher for each recipient to purchase nails and other needed items to help build a house.

Schnaubelt, who is also the Namatanai District Development Authority (NDDA) Chairman, presented three primary schools with banana boats which include Puamarang, Marai and Mapua while the other five primary schools that missed out will get theirs soon.

He said, “The total funding of these projects under the WDS program for the five wards of Tabar is worth K1.3 million derived from the Lihir royalty funds.

I take note of the recent calls from the provincial government as to how Lihir royalty is being disbursed in both Namatanai and Kavieng, but we in Namatanai, this is where the funds are spent, Schnaubelt clarified.

The Minister also presented K10, 000 for the Mapua Catholic parish for a new church hall and K2, 000 for the youths rugby competition on the island.
