Bank joins hands with associations to empower communities

IN a remarkable display of solidarity and commitment to community empowerment, Mama Bank, Indian Association of PNG (IAPNG) and Daughters of Mary Immaculate (DMI) have joined hand to spearhead an inspiring initiative on International Women’s Day.

The event, held at Murray Barracks in NCD on the International Women’s Day, served as a platform for celebrating the achievements of women and fostering inclusive growth within communities.

Over 28 resilient mothers graduated from life skills courses facilitated by DMI, signifying a significant milestone in their journey towards self-reliance and empowerment.

NCD Governor Hon Powes Parkop the chief guest of the programme organised by DMI.
Mama Bank’s chief executive officer, Mr Gunanidhi Das, took this opportunity by presenting 10 computers to DMI for the digital learning of children in the community to who they are supporting. This generous contribution is poised to revolutionize access to education and technology, providing young learners with the tools they need to succeed in the digital age.

Mama Bank thanks to Lite Haus International for their support to get these computers to help children’s digital education.

Furthermore, Indian Association of PNG (IAPNG), a non-profit organization working in the country for last 40 years came forward to help the children with their book learning with a substantial donation of K10,000 from which DMI bought school bags, books and stationaries and distributed to the educational aspirations of 70 young students.

The presence of Governor for NCD, Powes Parkop, Catholic Church head of PNG, PNGDF Management and dignitaries from Mama Bank, IAPNG, and DMI underscored the significance of collaborative efforts in driving positive change within communities. Their collective commitment to fostering inclusive development and empowering women and children resonated strongly throughout the event.

The collaborative initiative between Mama Bank, IAPNG, and DMI exemplifies the power of collective action in driving social change and empowering individuals to realize their full potential. As we commemorate International Women’s Day, let us celebrate the spirit of inclusion and continue working together towards a more equitable and prosperous society.

Women’s Micro Bank Limited is the only licensed financial institution in Papua New Guinea with an explicit focus on women. This focus is due to women and men being positioned differently in the rural economy because of traditional gender dynamics. Mama Bank believes that women are the gateway to economic empowerment of the country and adheres to the slogan “SUPPORTIM MERI KIRAPIM BUSINES KIRAPIM KANTRI”
