Teachers urged to participate in Census

TEACHING Service Commission (TSC) of Papua New Guinea has called on the 63,000 dedicated teachers nationwide to take part in the National Census and LLG elections if given the opportunity.

Chairman of TSC Samson Wangihomie encouraged teachers to apply and take part with other census officers to collect data.

“Those applicants who are successful will automatically be released under section 105 of the Teaching Service Act to take part in national duties,” he said.

“Teachers who wish to take part in the national census will not be paid any extra allowances apart from their fortnightly salary.

“I want to strongly emphasise that if you are engaged during the normal public service time from 7:45 to 4:06, you are already being paid by the government but claims can be laid to the National Statistics Office for working after hours.”

He urged all teachers in PNG to actively involve in this important national event because the country needs data to develop policies and other developments.
“I urge the Education and Teaching Service Commission’s advisors in each province to actively involve teacher’s teachers in this significant national endeavor. District and Provincial advisors, I implore you to recognise and encourage teachers to participate as numerators or trainers of counting officials.”
