TODAY (Tuesday, April 16th), students from Jubilee Catholic Secondary School in Port Moresby showcased the power of unity and compassion as they rallied together to support their fellow East Sepik residents, who have been devastated by recent floods and earthquakes.
In a presentation at their school, the Sepik students led the initiative, mobilising the entire school community to donate essential items such as clothes, cooking utensils, sleeping bags, books, and other life necessities to aid those grappling with the aftermath of the natural disasters.
The support for the initiative reflects the school’s solidarity and mutual support.
Spearheaded by the Sepik Students, the initiative received backing from students across the school.
Deputy Principal Academic, Jennet Sengi, commended the students for their proactive approach in assisting those in need, stating the school’s dedication to giving back to the community.
“More than half of the students in this school are Sepik students, whether half or full Sepik, and we’re standing behind them during these challenging times,” Sengi said.
Chairman of the “Wantok Blo Sepik” major Donation committee, John Wesley Gomjuan, expressed gratitude to the students for their generosity and emphasised the critical role of community support in times of adversity.
“People have had hard times sleeping peacefully over the last couple of weeks due to their homes being destroyed by floods and a major earthquake,” Gomjuan noted.
Gomjuan pledged to work tirelessly to restore normalcy and help those in need.
“I will try to get everything back in place once the tide is low and when the situation gets back to normal,” Gomjuan stated.
