THE Secretariat of the Country Package has been moved from the Department of Foreign Affairs to the Department of the Prime Minister, Chief Secretary to the Government  Ivan Pomaleu, announced at a press conference.

Pomaleu said the transfer is a strategic step to boost leadership, coordination, and results across Papua New Guinea’s environment agenda.

The Country Packages for Forest, Nature, and Climate bring together government agencies, development partners, provinces, civil society, the private sector, and communities to drive sustainable, transformational change.
The initiative focuses on five priorities:

  • Expanding protected areas to cover 30% of land and marine zones
  • Improving forest management and governance
  • Strengthening long-term financing for climate, forest, and nature outcomes
  • Supporting environmental research and education
  • Enhancing monitoring and reporting systems

The announcement signals PNG’s commitment to delivering tangible impacts on climate, nature, and conservation.
