THE Teaching Service Commission (TSC) Chairman, Maini Mike Ugaia, has issued an urgent nationwide call to all educators who did not receive their leave fare entitlements for the 2025 and 2026 school calendar years.
Affected teachers must immediately compile and submit all necessary supporting documentation to their respective Provincial TSC Advisors and Provincial Education Advisors (PEAs). Upon receiving and verifying these files, the TSC will consolidate the data and submit the claims directly to the National Department of Treasury to facilitate prompt budget clearance and payment.
PEAs are advised to submit all outstanding teachers leave fares documents by the end of this month.
Mr Ugaia said this administrative directive comes with direct backing from Prime Minister James Marape, who is actively pushing for the swift resolution of all outstanding teacher entitlements to maintain stability within the education sector.
Chairman Ugaia clarified that while the TSC protects and safeguards the overall interests of teachers, teacher leave fares are currently administered and managed at the provincial level. All corresponding funds are dispatched straight to provincial government grants rather than being held by the central Commission.
He said because the decentralized system has left some teachers stranded with part payment or without their travel funds, the national government is stepping in to address these gaps directly through the Treasury Department.
Mr Ugaia said to ensure no teacher is left behind, provincial education divisions must act swiftly to gather these outstanding claims and transmit the verified data up to the national headquarters. The Commission reiterates that timely submission is critical, as the Treasury Department requires accurate figures to allocate the necessary supplementary funding.
Chairman Ugaia urges all provincial authorities to treat this exercise with the utmost urgency to minimize further financial distress for our educators and ensure they receive their hard-earned entitlements.
