SOUTHERN Highlands Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Chief Inspector Kelly Sombe and Police Task Force Unit one members visited Embi village on Wednesday 22nd July 2026 and demanded two warring tribes of Embi one and two council wards to lay down weapons and stop tribal fighting.
PPC Sombe said this was an active tribal fight at Embi village in Embi one and Embi two council wards at Nembi Plateau Local Level Government in the Nipa Kutubu District. The fight commenced on Tuesday 21st July 2026, at 4:00pm and continued into Wednesday morning after they had rested for a week.
PPC said as part of his first operation within the province after taking over the post on Friday 17th July 2026, he set foot at Embi village within Nembi Platau LLG boasting his community policing during a trouble fight between two warning tribes upon receiving reports. He visited the warring tribes accompanied by Senior Inspector Dickson Kang, Task Force Unit one members and Nipa Police personnel.
PPC Sombe strongly condemned the fight and warned both parties to lay down weapons immediately. He urged both parties to uphold the law and pursue peace, stating that tribal fighting has no winners and only results in displacement of innocent mothers, children, disruption of school children, and damage future generations.
“Both parties welcomed the presence of the Provincial Police Commander, and they assured PPC and the police team that they have now laid down their weapons and will prepare for peace talks in the coming days.
“The police personnel are already on the ground to address the law & order issues there and, educated professionals, village leaders and citizens of Nembi Plautue must cooperate with the police to establish peace,” adding that he said their mission was successfully completed on a high note where respect and cooperation were shown to the police personnel who were on the ground.
PPC Sombe is a well experienced officer who has been in the highlands for last forty years servings people. He was the Highlands Mobile Group Commander for the last ten years or so and have both police administrative and field experiences.
