THE Nawaeb District Development Authority (DDA), under the leadership of Hon. Theo Pelgen, continues to transform rural infrastructure with the ongoing 1-kilometre upgrade of the Sibi–Kawarang–Balawang–Kasingan Road in Wain-Erap LLG.
The project is being undertaken by Quantum Engineering and funded by the Nawaeb DDA as part of its commitment to improving road access for remote communities.
This latest upgrade builds on the original 5-kilometre road opening launched in 2023, which ended nearly 49 years without vehicle access for the villages of Kalawang, Balawang and Kasingan. The road was designed to unlock the area’s rich agricultural potential, enabling farmers to transport coffee, cocoa, fresh produce and vegetables more efficiently to markets in Lae, Nadzab and surrounding centres, while improving access to schools, health services and other essential government services.
The current 1-kilometre section will further improve safety and all-weather accessibility to Kawarang Village, strengthening the road network and ensuring communities continue to benefit from reliable transport infrastructure.
Hon. Theo Pelgen reaffirmed that investing in rural roads remains one of the Nawaeb DDA’s highest priorities because
better roads create better opportunities for economic growth, education, healthcare and improved livelihoods for the people.
