The National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has secured the exclusive broadcast rights to Sheilla Yama’s world title fight, taking place in Auckland, New Zealand, on 8 August 2026.
Yama will defend her IBF International Super Lightweight Title against challenger Jessica Messina in the highly anticipated bout.
The fight will be broadcast live nationwide on NBC 1 television and NBC Radio, giving Papua New Guineans across the country the opportunity to watch their rising boxing star compete on the world stage.
Managing Director of NBC, Mr Kora Nou said Yama is one of the fastest-rising names in women’s boxing. Born in Papua New Guinea and fighting out of Hamilton, New Zealand, the undefeated super lightweight has quickly built a reputation for her aggressive style, toughness and finishing power.
“She has climbed the international rankings at pace, capturing the IBF International Super Lightweight Title in May 2026 with a dominant stoppage victory over previously undefeated Chinese contender Haini Mulataiaili. Her professional resume also includes impressive wins over Louise Creaven, Rishon Harris and Nailini Helu,” Nou said.
