THE Department of Education has launched EduNeX-the National Digital Learning Management System for Papua New Guinea, at the Port Moresby National School of Excellence alongside the Information Communications Technology (ICT) Policy on Thursday, 30th of July, 2026.
The launch follows the release of the Integrated ICT Policy in Education 2025-2029. EduNeX aims to improve equitable access to quality education, strengthen teacher capacity through digital teaching tools, provide students with engaging learning opportunities, and build a more resilient, inclusive and future-ready education system in PNG.
Department Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra said EduNeX will modernize classrooms and prepare PNG students to be globally competitive.
“We don’t want to be left behind. We want to be comparable and globally competitive and be in the evolving digital world,” he said.
Dr. Kombra said EduNeX is a secure, single-connection platform that will link every school in the country to a digital education system.
The department will work with network providers to connect schools using Starlink and other accessible networks. The focus is to reach schools in areas with limited teachers and make education accessible.
“Where there are no first-line teachers, this will be the solution we are looking towards,” he said.
Mr Kombra said, a key feature of EduNeX is the integration of artificial intelligence in classrooms.
“Now, in EduNeX we are going to bring in artificial intelligence into the classroom. So it will be comparable to any part of the world. We have to be comparable. We have to be compatible,” Dr. Kombra said.
Minister for Education Hon. Francis Kikin Siune said technology must serve people and communities.
“Technology is not about technology for its own sake. It is about people being very involved in developing technologies supporting schools and empowering the community,” he said.
“We must work with individuals so that we can support our schools and communities that have been inspired by innovation as well as our evolvement,” Mr. Siune said.
He said technology should be adopted as a resource platform to enable institutions to develop innovative technologies and AI.
“Innovation is a vision for a future generation and it starts today. Over the years we have brought online resources for greater communities and individuals. This will push forward more initiatives where communities will have access to quality education for quality educational development,” he said.
EduNeX represents a significant step towards the digital transformation of PNG’s education sector.
