K92 Mining Limited and the Divine Word University (DWU) have entered into a partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will enable students to undergo industrial training at the Kainantu Gold Mine operations.
The MoU was signed at the DWU main campus in Madang on Saturday 22nd August 2026, during the university’s 30th Anniversary Festival of Legacy and Vision, by President of DWU Professor Fr. Philip Gibbs and K92 Mining’s Vice President Community Affairs and External Relations Stanley Komunt and was witnessed by K92’s Vice President Human Resources Susan Scheepers and DWU Partnerships Director, Melissa Kembol Anzu.
This partnership sets the foundation for collaboration on information exchange, technical studies, research projects, and field-oriented training in areas such as Occupational Health & Safety, Commercial and Human Resources.
A key focus of the partnership is providing DWU students with direct exposure to the mining industry through industrial traineeships, site visits, field trips and research opportunities, to produce industry ready graduates. These initiatives are designed to enhance students’ practical skills, broaden their understanding of the sector and improve their readiness for future employment.
The MOU aims to build a mutually beneficial partnership that will also give K92 Mining access to academic expertise, research support, and a future talent pipeline.

Mining Vice President Human Resources. President of DWU, Professor Fr. Gibbs emphasized that partnership must work both ways.
“We’re committing today to contribute to K92’s operation too. There’ll be new opportunities for industrial training for our students. The biggest sponsorship is in the industrial training which I hope we will develop, and our relationship and our partnerships with yourselves,” Fr. Gibbs said.
This formal partnership will support the growing demand of Papua New Guinea’s mining industry. Through this partnership, K92 Mining also aims to attract and develop the best talent in Papua New Guinea.
