A Medical Doctor Assaulted by an Asian Shop Manager

A Medical Doctor at Port Moresby General Hospital (POMGEN) was assaulted by an Asian shop manager, security guards and few male employees of Bulk Trading shop located inside the ANZ Compound opposite Boroko Motors in Port Moresby. Dr. Kaycii Amoko, a General Surgeon for Central Provincial Health Authority who graduated with a Master’s Degree of Medicine in Surgery last week Friday from the University of Papua New Guinea was buying some goods at the shop on Monday, May 1, 2023 when the incident happened.

“I came to the checkout counter with the trolley and due to internet banking issues my transaction was taking time to process. The Asian shop manager became impatient with me and started cursing. I heard him cursing right behind me so I turned to him and argued with him which led into a scuffle with him. I was immediately surrounded by few security guards and male employees who punched me several times on my head and face only to be rescued by other kind shoppers. The Asian shop manager hit me with a piece of wood and this caused bruising and laceration to my head. My head and face was sore all over and I was traumatized by this incident,” recalled Dr. Amoko.

Dr. Amoko placed a report with Boroko police station immediately after the incident.

“I will continue to follow up as I was treated as if I was a criminal trying to rob them. This kind of behavior is unbecoming of a foreigner who comes into our country to do business and mistreat us as they wish. I believe many other local customers and employees in shops are verbally and physically assaulted like this. I hope by taking this Asian shop manager to court and penalizing his attitude will teach him a lesson,” said Dr. Amoko.
