Bosavi road development awaits government funding: MP Joseph

Member for Nipa Kutubu Dr Billy Joseph has directed a crucial question without notice to the Prime Minister concerning the urgent need for the development of the Bosavi road.

Joseph emphasised the role of Prime Minister James Marape as the key orchestrator in connecting PNG comprehensively, leaving no one or region behind.

Mount Bosavi Local Level Government (LLG) is strategically positioned amidst major oil and gas projects such as Hides, Komo, Kutubu, South East Mananda, Moran, and Penyang oil and gas project. Its bordering proximity to Hela, Western Province, and Gulf delineates its significant influence over the region.
With a local population of approximately 20,000, the Bosavi roads development is imperative.

The proposed road spans 60 kilometers from Waro in Kutubu to Mount Bosavi’s administrative hub, Muluma Government Station. Of this stretch, 17 kilometers reside within Kutubu, extending to the Tagali River, where plans are set to construct a 75-meter bridge.

“Presently, the Nipa Kutubu DDA, in collaboration with Kutubu and Mount Bosavi LLG presidents, has embarked on the initial phases of construction. About 5 kilometers have been covered, and the efforts are directed towards advancing to the Tagali region,” he said.

“I also understand that Komo Hulia MP and Hela Provincial Government are also pushing from Komo towards Mt Sisa and our boarder.”

Joseph underscored the need for financial support from the Missing Link/ConnectPNG program to expedite the connectivity of Mount Bosavi road, as well as the crucial Komo to Mount Sisa route.

“The pressing question remains: When will the government provide the necessary funding for these essential road connections?” he questioned.

“We need funding support from the Missing Link/ConnectPNG program. When will your government fund the connection of my Mt Bisavi road and the Komo to Mt Sisa and Mt Bisavi road.”
