Prime Minister Hon James Marape says the Connect PNG programme has become one of the most significant nation-building initiatives undertaken since Independence.

Addressing journalists at the APEC Terminal before departing for Kikori, PM Marape said the programme is opening economic opportunities and linking remote communities to essential services.

According to the Prime Minister, more than 7,000 kilometres of roads have been constructed, upgraded, rehabilitated, or maintained under the initiative.

The programme has also delivered major bridge projects, airport upgrades, expanded port infrastructure, rural electrification projects, and improved telecommunications services across the country.

“Connect PNG is more than roads and bridges. It is about connecting our people to opportunities, markets, schools, hospitals, and services,” Marape said.

The Prime Minister said improved connectivity is helping unlock economic potential in rural Papua New Guinea while promoting national unity.
He also highlighted government investments in schools, hospitals, and public facilities as part of broader efforts to improve service delivery and support economic development.

Marape said infrastructure development will remain a central pillar of the government’s long-term vision for a stronger and more connected Papua New Guinea.
