For the first time in history, Kagua Catholic Parish in the Mendi Diocese will host the Eastern Deanery Catholic Youth Convention from 22nd to 26th June 2026, bringing together thousands of Catholic youths from nine parishes across Ialibu-Pangia, Kagua-Erave, and Imbongu districts.

The week-long convention is being organized under the leadership of Fr. Onesmus, Mendi Diocese Youth Coordinator, assisted by Fr. Paul Leme, Eastern Deanery Youth Chaplain, and Eastern Deanery Youth Coordinator Mr. Adam Awape.

The gathering aims to strengthen the faith of young people in Jesus Christ, build unity, develop talents, encourage friendships, and promote peace among Catholic youths who share the same beliefs.

Speaking ahead of the event, Mr. Adam Awape said despite challenges faced in Kagua Central, the convention will proceed successfully under God’s grace and mercy.

“The Prince of Peace is Jesus Christ, and no evil power will stop this convention,” he said.

Mr. Awape also called on surrounding communities, parents, leaders, and good Samaritans to support the event and show love, respect, and kindness to visiting youths.

“Youths are the future of this nation. We need everyone to support this important Church activity,” he added.

The historic gathering is expected to become one of the largest Catholic youth conventions ever hosted in the Eastern part of Southern Highlands Province.
