HEKARI Women’s Coach Ericsson Komeng says the girls are prepared to put up a competitive match at the 2026 OFC Women’s Champions League in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
Speaking during the interview with the OFC Media in Honiara yesterday and today, Komeng highlighted the team’s preparedness and focus towards the game.
“We came prepared. After losing both finals in the previous games, it helped us to go back and work extra hard,” he said.
Coach Komeng and the team are looking at a very competitive tournament with strong teams sitting with in the same pool.
He said the girls remained focused on the pool games while aiming for the finals.
“Playing against Fiji’s BA football club, Vanuatu’s Tafea football club and Henderson Eels football club helps us to be better. If we could go through in our pool match with nine points then we should be okay,” Komeng said.
With Hekari being the experienced side, Komeng could not wait for the tournament to start.
“I’m sure we are looking forward for it and I’m pretty sure we can go through the tournament better than the last time,” Komeng said.
Learning from the two finals, which Hekari lost to New Zealand Women, Komeng said the team understands the competitiveness of the tournament are now ready to work as a team.
“We are here not as favorites but as the team that can put up a good challenge in our pool match,” he said.
Komeng extended his gratitude to the supporters and families in Papua New Guinea for the support and appealed that they put the girls in prayer.
“Thank you to the girls’ families and the married ones, thank you to their husbands and children for the support,” he said.
Hekari kicks off their match against Tafea FC on Sunday 28th of June 2026 in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
