Madang Provincial Police command says the Special Easter Operations will begin on Thursday (April 2) and end on Tuesday (April 7).

And Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Acting Superintendent Robert Baim, has urged the people to respect Easter, which is a sacred Christian period.

He said all individuals, families and communities must respect the spiritual importance by maintaining peace, dignity, and discipline.

PPC Baim warned the people to refrain from consumption and selling of alcohol such as homebrew.

He advised against loud music and activities causing noise pollution and disorderly behavior as well as fighting causing public disturbance.

PPC Baim said the police operation would involve roadblocks and highway patrols.

He added that police would also conduct foot patrols, random checks on suspicious individuals and groups as well as monitoring of known hotspots areas.

“All Community Policing Units members are directed to maintain community peace and good order within your respective zones and wards within your Local Level Governments,” PPC Baim said.

“Your active presence is crucial to ensuring safety and harmony throughout the Easter period.

“All vehicle drivers must obey all traffic rules, avoid drunk driving, and cooperate fully with police at checkpoints.”

PPC Baim also urged church leaders, community leaders, parents, and youths to work together with police to ensure a peaceful and respectful Easter period is celebrated in the province.
