PORT Moresby Business College (POMBC) officially launched its new website on Monday, 24 August, with leaders describing it as a key step in the institution’s digital transformation and its 2026-2029 Strategic Plan.
The launch was officiated by Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology [DHERST] Mr. Lonnie Baki, Council members, and POMBC students and staff.
Chairman of the POMBC Council Mr. Parululu Kwarara said the website brings a new sense of direction to the College and opens opportunities to embrace digital transformation.
“Our aim is to build robust information technology (IT) infrastructure to enable us to rise above our current environment through online platforms. International students will also be a very important part of our economy,” Mr. Kwarara said.
He said the website will enable people to explore POMBC, learn about the programs and courses offered, and provide information on enrollment, application upgrades, and opportunities.
Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Baki said the website is more than just a digital page.
“The POMBC website may appear simple, but in today’s world, the way an institution presents itself, communicates with students and stakeholders, provides information, and connects with the wider community is increasingly important,” he said.
He said the launch comes as the College prepares to implement its Strategic Plan 2026-2029. The website directly supports Key Result Areas in Infrastructure and Digital Transformation, Good Governance and Institutional Sustainability, Graduate Employability and Industry Engagement, and Academic Excellence.
Mr. Baki said the launch aligns with the National Higher and Technical Education Plan 2026-2031, which calls for adaptive, technology-driven institutions.
“The website is an important step, but it should not be a destination. Our institutions must progressively become more digital in the way they manage information, provide services, and engage with students,” he said.
He urged students to develop technical, communication and entrepreneurial skills to meet changing workplace demands including AI, automation and e-commerce.
“PNG needs your ideas, your energy and your courage,” he told students.
To management and staff, Mr. Baki said: “Protect the Institution’s history, respect its tradition, but do not allow tradition to prevent innovation. Today’s website launch is one example of putting the 2026- 2029 strategic plan into action.”
