THE Government has established a Special Parliamentary Committee for the implementation of the Medium Term Development Plan IV, says the Leader of Government Business Rainbo Paita.

He said the committee comprises West New Britain Governor Sasindra Muthuvel as chairman, Central Governor Rufina Peter as deputy chairperson, with Eastern Highlands Governor Simon Sia, Manus Governor Charlie Benjamin, Gulf Governor Chris Havieta, Hela Governor Philip Undialu and East New Britain Governor Michael Marum as members.

Paita said the primary objective of the committee is to oversee the implementation of MTDP IV and to ensure it aligns with provincial and district plans, including the progress of national projects in health, education and infrastructure development.

“The committee will provide an independent oversight for the establishment of the MTDP IV and to ensure that there is efficient, effective and accountable implementation,” he said.

Paita said the committee shall be guided by following principles, including being;

  • Established in parliament and to include relevant stakeholders.
  • Transparent and accessible to the public;
  • Accountable to the Parliament and the people of Papua New Guinea.

“The committee shall collaborate with stakeholders, including the government, civil society and private sector in carrying out its work,” Paita said.

“It shall oversee and assess the alignment of provincial and district plans for MTDP IV, scrutinise the programmes carried out by national agencies and ensure their compliance to specific plans ensuring alignment in the sectors.”

Paita said the committee shall collaborate with relevant committees, departments and organisations involved in development planning, operations  and practice on the implementation of the MTDP IV.
