REPRESENTATIVES from 19 Australian universities met with hundreds of prospective students, scholarship applicants and alumni in Port Moresby last week to promote higher education opportunities in Australia.
The Study Australia Education Roadshow, held on 16 and 17 July, gave Papua New Guineans the opportunity to speak directly with university representatives about available courses, admission requirements, student support services and campus life.
The event also brought together candidates for the Australia Awards Scholarships 2027 intake, students preparing to begin studies in Australia, education partners and alumni.
Australian High Commission Minister-Counsellor Madeleine Moss said education remained a cornerstone of the relationship between Australia and Papua New Guinea.
“Education is a key pillar of Australia and Papua New Guinea’s deep and enduring bilateral relationship,” Ms Moss said.
She said Australian education opportunities help develop Papua New Guinea’s skilled workforce while strengthening institutions, communities and professional networks between the two countries.
Australian Trade and Investment Commissioner for Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands Esther Sun said the roadshow enabled prospective students to access reliable information directly from Australian universities.
She said the initiative reflected Australia’s commitment to supporting Papua New Guinea’s education and workforce development by investing in future leaders and professionals.
Australia continues to support Papua New Guinea’s education sector through Australia Awards scholarships, partnerships with educational institutions and people-to-people exchanges.
The annual Study Australia Education Roadshow aims to connect prospective students with Australian universities and provide guidance on study pathways and support available to students undertaking tertiary education in Australia.
