The Cassowaries Women opened their 2026 Boroko Motors ISUZU Women’s 50-Over Tournament campaign with a hard-fought three-wicket victory over the Black Bass Women at the Home of Cricket PNG, Amini Park on Monday 27 July,2026.
After winning the toss, Cassowaries captain Brenda Tau elected to bowl first, a decision that paid immediate dividends as the bowling attack restricted Black Bass to 89 all out in 23.4 overs.
Player of the match Cassowaries Vicky Ara’a, produced a sensational spell to claim 6 wickets for 14 runs from 6.4 overs. Her outstanding bowling performance dismantled the Black Bass batting line-up.
Supporting the bowling effort, the Cassowaries maintained discipline throughout the innings, ensuring Black Bass were unable to build any partnerships.
In reply, the Cassowaries faced early setbacks, losing wickets at regular intervals before Tanya Ruma steadied the innings with a composed unbeaten 41 runs from 47 deliveries, including five boundaries. Her innings proved crucial in guiding the chase.
Despite losing seven wickets, the Cassowaries successfully reached the target, finishing on 90/7 in 25 overs. Isabel Toua remained unbeaten on 10 to help see her side home.
Black Bass fought hard with the ball, with Pauke Siaka returning impressive figures of 4 wickets for 17 runs from five overs, while captain Henao Thomas claimed 2 wickets for 14 runs from seven overs.
The victory earned the Cassowaries their opening two competition points, while Black Bass will look to bounce back in their next fixture.
The three day tournament will continue on Wednesday 29 and Friday 31,July with three teams, the Cassowaries, Black Bass (2025 champions) and Mariners play for the Boroko Motors Izusu Women’s Smash, 2026 trophy at Amini Park.
