The Cassowaries Women maintained their unbeaten run in the Boroko Motors ISUZU Women’s 50-Over Tournament with a composed six-wicket victory over the Mariners Women at Amini Park yesterday, Wednesday 29 July.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Mariners were bowled out for 182 in 49.3 overs, setting the Cassowaries a competitive target in the tournament’s second match.
The Cassowaries responded with a disciplined batting performance, reaching 183 for 4 in 49.2 overs to secure victory and collect another two competition points.
Leading the successful run chase was Brenda Hoi Tau, who was named Player of the Match after producing a captain’s knock of 63 runs from 91 balls, striking eight boundaries. Her innings laid the foundation for the chase.
Supporting the effort was Tanya Ruma, who remained unbeaten on 55 from 99 deliveries, guiding the Cassowaries safely across the finish line. Earlier contributions from Erani Pokana (17) and Miria Raio (14) helped build partnerships before the middle order steadied the innings.
For the Mariners, Konio Oala and Gabe Wendy Thomas claimed one wicket each, but the Cassowaries batters remained patient to overhaul the target with four wickets in hand.
The result marks the Cassowaries’ second consecutive victory, leading in the tournament following their opening-round win over the Black Bass on Monday 27 July, strengthening their position on the competition ladder.
The opening round of the three-day Boroko Motors ISUZU Women’s 50-Over Tournament will conclude on Friday, 31 July, before the competition resumes with Round Two in the coming weeks.
