NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Chief Inspector Silva Sika has warned the general public to be responsible for their own safety and properties during the upcoming sporting events.
“To the general public who are coming to watch the games, we will not guarantee security for your vehicles as it will be your personal responsibility.
“We previously had issues with the grand finale that was played between the Enga Mioks and Goroka Lahanis last week where people taking risks parking their vehicles around the public roads leading up to the sport fields.
“We do not want repetition, you must be responsible for your safety and for your own property especially the vehicles,” the Met Sup said.
“If you park your vehicles on the road, you decided to make up that decision with good faith that things will be in good condition.
“Mind you, we have people with wrong mind in the streets looking for opportunities and don’t risk it,” he warned.
Inspector Sika said police presence and visibility will not be there just to provide security for one person because the ratio is not adequately enough to sustain everybody.
He also appealed to the people not to carry any weapons as this may cause threat to the general public and the law will effectively deal with that.
He said the Zone Commanders have come forward to contribute sufficient police man power for security both inside and outside of the field because most threats are not inside the stadium but outside and that can spill over.
“We want people with decent mind to be at the right place at the right time,” the Met Sup said.
He said everybody, including the Prime Minister and other political leaders in the city wants to come and enjoy the weekend, so, the city residents must come with good mindset to enjoy the game.
The Met Sup was speaking during the joint press conference with Police and PNG Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) at Boroko police station today.
