BUMAYONG community from Nawaeb District in Morobe Province will now have easy access to new facilities in the areas of law and order, and banking.
This follows the official opening of new Bumayong Police Station, equipped with new staff houses, and Mini Bank South Pacific (BSP) agent.
Internal Security Minister, Peter Tsiamalili Jnr was on the ground last Friday to officiate the official opening of these facilities.
The opening ceremony was witnessed by Morobe Governor Luther Wenge, host MP Theo Pelgen, ACP Northern Command Peter Guiness, and other dignitaries.
The new facilities were funded and built by Nawaeb District Development Authority (NDDA) under the leadership of current MP, to complement the existing Police Stations throughout the district.
Minister Tsiamalili Jnr described the new facilities as the “lighthouse” for the people, signifying the importance of independence for Papua New Guinea.
He said PNG got independence to oversee its own affairs, and the Police Station represents being independent.
The Minister thanked the local landowners to allow the facilities to be built on their land.
“The new infrastructures will look after Bumayong community, especially allowing the mothers to partake in economic activities such as marketing.
“The Police Station reminds us to be humble and be productive in revenue generating activities.”
Minister Tsiamalili Jnr also made known the government’s commitment towards the Bumayong Township Redevelopment program, indicating a funding allocation of K5 million from the National Planning.
He also mentioned that Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Lae, Hon. John Rosso has pledged a new police vehicle to support police operations at Bumayong.
Morobe Governor Luther Wenge emphasized similar sentiments and urged the community to have a clear mindset to appreciate developments.
He thanked the BSP for setting up the Mini Cash Agent within the precincts of the Police Station.
“This facility is very convenient for the people of Bumayong as they will have easier access to banking services at their door step.”
Nawaeb MP Theo Pelgen said Law and Order issues were major hindrances to development in his district.
He said he saw that need and made available funding to build those facilities, specifically to encourage minimal unlawful practices.
“The new facilities are here to serve you the people of this community, and you must take responsibility to look after it,” Peglen said.
The MP thanked everyone involved in making these facilities available to the people of Bumayong.
