BY JOE GURINA

THE Central province government (CPG) has provided relief supplies to around 3, 000 villagers who were left homeless after a violent storm destroyed their homes on Thursday 23rd March at around 7pm in the evening.

The affected villagers in Porebada, Hiri West, saw 31 houses completely destroyed and 19 partially damaged when a sea tornado hit the area, causing extensive damage.

Chair of the Porebada Disaster Committee, Goata Bosina, expressed his gratitude towards the provincial government for their swift response to the disaster.

He assured that the relief supplies would be delivered to the victims and conveyed his appreciation towards the provincial government.

Deputy Provincial Administrator (Social Services), Michael Uaiz, who accompanied the delivery of K50, 000 worth of food supplies, expressed the provincial administration’s heartfelt anxiety over the destruction caused by the natural disaster.

He emphasized that the provincial government cannot meet all the needs required and urged communities and business houses to support the disaster-stricken families.

Mr. Uaiz also expressed his gratitude towards the landowner company, Porebada Holdings Limited and former Treasurer Dairi Vele for providing relief supplies.

In addition, he assured the affected community that the central province disaster team would assess the damages done on the school and support in any way possible to get classes back on track.

Despite the trying economic difficulties faced in the province and country, Uaiz highlighted that the provincial government has come in a strong way to show its support towards the affected community.
