Dept sets in motion resolutions

IN accordance with the decision of the National Executive Council (NEC), the Department of Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs (DPLGA) has started implementing the 28 resolutions proposed by the provincial governors during the first Provincial Governors Conference last year.

Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs Minister Soroi Eoe made the announcement while introducing the upcoming second Provincial Governors Conference scheduled to take place in Lae from November 7 to 8.

He said the department, with guidance from the Provincial Local Level Service Monitoring Authority (PLLSMA), has initiated coordination efforts to put the 28 resolutions into action.

He said the two-day event will be a step forward in establishing the current Marape-Rosso Government’s commitment for continued dialogue and implementation towards better decentralisation reforms focused on growing the 22 provincial economies.

Eoe said the Lae conference is part of the government’s commitment to decentralization.

“It is now incumbent upon all governors, ministers and government agencies to support the work of the bipartisan committee to deliver a decentralized system for our people,” he said.

He said the committee chaired by Morobe Governor Luther Wenge will work to achieve full decentralisation aims under the National Constitution, including the transfer of certain powers and functions that will empower them to develop their respective provinces.

“I urge everyone to contribute during the dialogue to ensure that the economic growth agenda and the collective objective of empowering the provinces to be self-reliant is realized,” Eoe said.
