Sustainable fisheries are vital for Pacific Islands: Minister
STATE Minister Assisting the Prime Minister and National Events Justin Tkatchenko told the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting that sustainable fisheries are vital for Pacific Island nations.
He made the statement during his presentation at the AMM Plenary Session 2 on November.
“To Papua New Guinea, including other Pacific Island economies, fisheries or fishing has been and continues to be the way of life,” Tkatchenko said.
“Sustainable fisheries and the banning of illegal and unreported and unregulated fishing and harmful subsidies is important.”
“PNG, therefore, looks forward to a comprehensive fisheries subsidy agreement in the Ministerial Conference (MC) 13 with special differential treatment provisions and policy space for developing our fisheries sector into the future.”
